A Bit About Me

Robyn with lion cubs in a Conservation Park in South Africa

I graduated Uni with a degree in Animal Behaviour and throughout my studies became so bored of the surprised, "Oh! So what are you going to do, tell me why my dog barks?" reaction. But to my delight that IS one of the things I have found myself doing!

During my studies, I learnt all about domestic and wild animal's behaviour and the motivations behind them. I began to look at behaviour in a new light, understanding that everything an animal does, it does for a reason. I was lucky enough to work with Erica Peachy, a behaviourist from Merseyside. Her approach to training dogs with rewards and positivity sparked a real interest and I began to look into animal training and positive reinforcement.

After graduating, I spent the next couple of years volunteering at the local RSPCA and helping their dog assessor's evening classes. She taught me so much and I just loved attending all those naughty dog's and puppy's training sessions.

In the absence of a dog, I have trained my rescued cat to play fetch. We also play hide and seek and have THE most incredible relationship; my boyfriend gets quite jealous! I put all this down to understanding her behaviour; I took the time to understand 'cat' and in doing so, have learnt how to communicate with her. Read Vicky Hall's books for cat chatting, she's fabulous.

I am now employed by my local zoo where I teach people but also help to train some of our animals. Although in it's early stages, our team have great ideas for an amazing animal show! My next adventure is a beguiling Blue Eyed Cockatoo...

I am far from an expert in the field of animal behaviour, but what I've learnt so far has been of so much use to me, I wanted to share it. I hope my tips can allow you and any pet the most fulfilling relationship; the kind that all pet's and their owners should have. Thank you, enjoy.

Testimonials

I recently purchased a dicky bag (dog poo bag!) online as it seemed the answer to all of my poop scooping problems (no bins on walks, clutching a tesco carrier bag blatantly full of crap - you know how it is! ) Well it arrived yesterday and I am pleased to report that it didn't dissapoint!  They look pretty funky and clip easily onto either the dog lead or your belt. Fantastic for me as I never had enough hands before to ferry bags of poo whilst atempting to control a small lab pup plus 3 kids!
We took the dicky bag (and the pup!) along with us to do a carboot this morning. Our furry friend didn't let the side down and issued 2 fine smelling dumps which were swiftly bagged and deposited in the dicky bag.  They were then left to fement for several hours in the back of the car. Normally a gas mask would be required to stand within 10 ft of the car having left our pooches poo for so long! This time though there was no odour at all. The OH can vouch for this as he insisted on sniffing the bag up close :0/.

Definite thumbs up, must have item for all dog owners!
